I’ve spent countless hours searching online for every possible one I could find. They’ve been bookmarked, pinned, saved to my Evernote and Dropbox files…you name it, I’ve searched and saved the options. Anytime I’ve been on a shoot where the homeowner had one, I would ask numerous questions about whether they liked it, why they chose the one they did, and the most often asked one regarding the “tidyness” factor of having a glass front door. So I’ll show you what I love about the Sub Zero Pro 48 we chose and share my research with you at the end of the post.
We knew we wanted a counter depth refrigerator since it was going to be built into the floor to ceiling cabinets. Another factor was the scale. It’s 4ft wide and 7ft tall, which fit our wall space perfectly. We also loved the massive hinges and that the large handles matched our Wolf range. It has a dual refrigeration system, which is why you see two temperature settings in the photo above. The one on the right is for the two lower drawers, and the one on the left is for the top glass door portion. The freezer has it’s own temperature display as well. In the photo below left, you can see the two smaller pull out drawers that can go from the refrigerator straight to the oven. I imagine this would be handy if you’re making a large lasagna for a party, but we just use them for deli meat and cheeses. The second photo shows the top drawer with a sliding glass door. It has great moveable compartments to accommodate a variety of items. The lower drawer is where I keep the “ugly” stuff like leftovers and things we don’t use everyday.
I didn’t take photos of all the freezer drawers, but you can see the interior and shelves are stainless. where to buy frozen door county cherriesWe store meat in the second drawer and the bottom drawer is the ice machine.door locks prices in kolkata I have a routine of turning the refrigerator light off before I go to bed, and then on again in the morning. upvc door locks for saleAlthough it would probably make a pretty night light for midnight snacks. upvc door locks for saleI keep the top shelf shallow for wine bottles. I need to pick up something to keep them from rolling around. Or maybe The Man can make a little wine rack.
Here are other options I considered… Monogram Glass Door – It’s a beautiful refrigerator but it was too narrow for our space. It would mean having to install two units, which in turn, make it too wide. But it’s a beauty. Frigidaire Commercial – This is the lowest price one I found but it had drawbacks. It isn’t counter depth so it would protrude out into the room. It’s a refrigerator only so that would mean purchasing a freezer. And it seemed more commercial with the full glass door and wheels. True Glass Door Refrigerators – There were a wide range of options, but again they were refrigeration only. You can see how my friend and fellow chicken lover Karen built hers in here. So after all that, here’s a couple notes… Since our refrigerator was on the very spendy side, we cut costs in the kitchen by not installing things like warming drawers, wine coolers, under counter refrigerator drawers, bar sinks, etc. It runs very quietly. In fact, I hardly ever hear it with the exception of when it drops ice.
We used and recommend a Factory Certified Installer. It includes an extra year warranty. Yes, I like looking at the stuff in the fridge. No, it doesn’t bother me if it gets messy. Yes, I purposely buy pretty bottles and jars. It’s my thing people, don’t make fun of me. Please let me know if you have any questions! I’ll do my best to answer them. I know when I was researching how helpful it was to find others who had been there. These appliances are available in a variety of sizes, and several products...Read More about Top 5 Refrigerators With Upper Freezer42 inch refrigerators are somewhat uncommon because that is a rare cabinet size. You have a more limited selection of exclusively high-end brands at this size. The most common cabinet sizes for refrigerators are 30, 33 and 36 inch by far, with 48 inch being the most specified for larger refrigerators. Still, I like the 42 inch size, especially in a shallow depth side by side configuration. In fact, I would not buy a side by side less than 42" because there is hardly any refrigerator capacity at 36 inch.
You have to remember that counter depth is less depth and therefore less cubic footage. Now, several manufacturersalso produce the more popular French door style. We'll look at the counter depth segment and then compare the products.Get our free Counter Depth Refrigerator Buying Guide » Professional refers to a more commercial looking product with the compressor on the top. They are available in 30" and 36" as well as larger sizes like 42" and 48". Regular counter depth refrigerators are just shallower refrigerators and are only available in smaller sizes like 30, 33 and 36 inch widths. The price of a regular counter depth is much cheaper at $1,700 to $3,500 vs. $8,000 plus on a professional. Integrated refrigerators fit within the 24 inch cabinet depth, so they are indistinguishable from the cabinet itself. The door of the professional (and regular) counter depth will protrude about three inches. Integrated refrigerators are available in smaller sizes like 18, 24, 30 and 36 inch.
You would buy two for 42 inches width. Integrated is more expensive per cubic foot than the pro. Thermador’sintegrated columns, T24IR800SP and T18IF800SP, total 42” in width They offer two different looks in your kitchen. One is noticeable and the other is completely hidden. (Get our Counter Depth Refrigerator Guide for a complete breakdown of the differences) True is a family owned commercial refrigeration company based in St. Louis. Their products are in almost every supermarket worldwide and are known for reliability. This refrigerator screams commercial. It is all metal inside and out with LED lighting and heavy commercial hinges. Sub-Zero is another family owned company, this one based in Wisconsin. Their refrigerator is the best constructed refrigerators on the market. It keeps food fresher longer with a vacuum seal and magnetic crispers designed to keep air out of the refrigerator. They also have twin compressors to eliminate air transferring from freezer to refrigerator.
Sub-Zero also employs an ingenious air scrubber, which removes the gases from spoiling food to eliminate cross contamination as well as to arrest the spoiling process. Their water filter is the best in refrigeration. A wholly owned subsidiary of the Bosch Company. They are known for manufacturing refrigerator columns. Thermador does not even manufacture this unit. KitchenAid is the producer of this solid yet unspectacular unit. Thermador, however, has the better rebate program with free dishwashers and hoods for qualified purchases. A wholly owned subsidiary of Whirlpool. The JF42NXFXDE is one of the largest French door units available. I like French doors as you have more useable capacity in the refrigerator with fruits and veggies at waist high level. You can buy this in KitchenAid for less, but without the free dishwasher. The only real difference between a KitchenAid and Jenn-Air is the color of the interior. Jenn-Air has a great rebate program with free dishwashers and hoods with qualified purchases.
Now this is something different. This is not a pro. As we said, integrated fits inside a 24" counter depth. The look is cleaner, but you pay more per cubic foot than any other refrigerator/freezer unit. Still, it is a great look. You would need to buy a 24" refrigerator and 18" freezer as two units. There is more flexibility in placement with this style. I love the True, but $16,000+ is a ton of money. You can buy the Sub-Zero all metal 48" Pro for that. Still, it's built unlike any other product. The built-in market is really Sub-Zero and everyone else. Sub-Zero has invested in building a better performing refrigerator with their air scrubber, vacuum seal and twin compressors. Jenn-Air, KitchenAid and Thermador are decent refrigerators and will cost far less than a Sub-Zero and offer rebates as well. The integrated is a nice option because you don't see the refrigerator or freezer. It can also be placed anywhere in the kitchen. Integrated is a nice option compared to a more in your face pro style.
