In general, there are 2 types of fireplace doors. One type is designed to fit traditional masonry style fireplaces, and the other type is designed to fit factory built systems, or prefab zero clearance fireplaces. These 2 types of doors are very different from each other in the way they mount to the firebox, how their frames are constructed, and the type of airflow they allow. It is very important to order the right type of fireplace door, otherwise you may end up with something that does not fit, or worse yet, is not up to your local building codes! The good news is that we can help you order the correct type of door. This depends on whether you desire a fireplace door that is standard sized and in stock, or one that must be custom made with specific dimensions or features. In stock fireplace doors are prepared, packaged, and ship out within 48 hours. This means that in less than a week you can have them installed in your home. Custom made fireplace doors on the other hand can take 2 to 6 weeks to build, depending on the season and how busy our custom shop is.
It takes longer to make these because our fireplace doors are hand made by skilled craftsman. Attention to detail and accurate frame dimensions are just a couple of the many hallmarks of our builders. Your new fireplace door will be well worth the wait, and become a durable yet beautiful addition to your home. If you have any questions about the ordering, fabrication, or shipping process, please give us a call. All fireplace doors here at CJ's include free shipping. We take on the hassle and the cost of any expensive freight, packaging, and shipping insurance to give you a worry-free experience. We guarantee that the fireplace door will arrive in good shape, ready to install. The only thing we ask is that you inspect the fireplace door, its frame, and its glass for damage, prior to the delivery person leaving your location. This ensures that if there was any damage during shipping, it can be amended quickly. In most cases you do not need a contractor to install a fireplace door.
Our doors feature a mounting system that uses either clamps which attach to the steel lintel bar, or brackets which attach to the insides of a zero clearance prefab fireplace. This means that for most homes, installation is as easy as using a screwdriver and possibly drilling a couple of holes through sheet metal. Adjustment is easy too: each fireplace door features methods to square up the frame, true up the door hinges, and keep everything in general mounted safe and snug. Please remember, some bar iron or steel fireplace doors can be heavy! Depending on the size of the door, installation may require 2 people. This is to keep yourself safe from injury and also so that the glass in the doors is not broken if the large fireplace door were to fall over during the install. Yes we sell replacement glass, gasket, and cement for fireplace doors. The glass used in fireplace doors is called tempered glass. It is the industry standard type of fireplace door glass and can be found in an easy to order page here.
The gasket used in most fireplace doors is designed to fit into a window channel, so we call it tape gasket. We have a couple of styles of replacement fireplace gasket found here. You may require some high temperature cement as well, which we offer on this page here. Yes we have frame samples available for almost all of our fireplace door finishes. This means that you may purchase 3 samples and they will be sent to your home. After you decide on a finish and begin to order a replacement fireplace door from CJ's, we will credit you back the cost of the sample. Doing it this way means that the frame samples are FREE if you decide to purchase a new fireplace door with us. Custom is our specialty. Unlike many other shops we are not afraid to get our hands dirty with all sorts of unique requests, features, and designs. Whether is something simple like an odd sized frame, or something complex like a custom arched fireplace door for a large commercial fireplace, our team has you covered.
