We bought this and had it installed by our contractor as he was finishing up our new home. We always hated leaving a hide a key somewhere around the house, so this product gave us the peace of mind that we can open the garages for anyone, anytime. It also helped give MUCH relief for those moment when you get to work and think "Did I close the garage when I left?" We highly recommend this product to anyone thinking about it, and it was very easy to connect to our Wink Hub! So far, so good. Biggest limitation currently is that it doesn't allow one account to have multiple users, so I have to sign on with my name and password on my wife's phone and kids phones. Seems simple enough to have one admin be able to approve others and then track who opened the door, etc. should have read the reviews before the purchase. I don't like wasting my time.
Easy installation and after that it is working great. No need to worry about if I missed to closed the garage door or not. I can check whether my garage door is closed or open remotely and close/open it with MyQ app. My wife and I installed this very easily. The instructions and set up were clear and quite understandable. I can open or close the garage door with my smart phone now, as well as check to see if it is open or closed. When using the smart phone to close the door, there is a flashing light and beeping to warn of door movement. A very nice feature. Another great little feature is alerts when there is garage door movement. This is an awesome way to take a 13 year old garage door opener and make it usable online thru an APP on my phone. Open the garage from down the street, no problem. Forget to close, close from anywhere. I love my system. * The app is very responsive and quickly tells you the state of your garage door * Even on cell service data you get quick responses
* Web based access is possible too * Alerts are very easy to setup * Once you tie your MyQ device to your account, no one else can access your device * Audible and visual alarms when remote using MyQ to close the garage door * Despite the device placement requirements and not being very handy, installation took 30 minutes * Must be online even after install to use (can not communicate through home’s wifi only) * Mounting the base to the ceiling is tricky, having the garage door sensor within two feet of base is trickier * Compatibility documentation could be more clear * Overall documentation could explain a bit more (still don’t know what some buttons do) * If you don’t have a drill I’m not sure if you could really install this I received my Chaimberlain MyQ Garage Door opener as a gift from a friend who also got it as a gift and could not use it. This lead to the first difficult but in a good way realization of the product: it is very particular about who gets access to your remote garage door opener.
This is very good as you don’t want just anybody to add your garage door opener to their account and be able to get in your house! It takes completely removing not just the device from your account but also your entire home setup in Chaimberlain’s system. Once that was all sorted out I was off to install this device. You have to plugin the base within range of your wifi network and mount it to your ceiling. It also has to be mounted to the ceiling within two feet of the garage door sensor you attach to your garage door with the garage door open. This is one area that I think would have been easier inversed: have the base and sensor within 2 feet and you know it is closed, if the sensor falls out of range you know it is open. Perhaps not even needing to mount it to your ceiling. Chaimberlain tried to make ceiling mounting as safe and easy as they could. The base unit attaches to a mounting bracket on your ceiling that also serves as a template for drilling the holes. So poke a pen through the holes to mark your spot, drill your pilot holes which they conveniently tell you which drill bit size, use either the wood screws or anchors then screws through the bracket and you’re in.
With the bracket attached pull on it a bit to make sure your base will be secured and then slide the base onto the bracket. The other part to be careful of is, you need to plug in the base. While the cable is quite long, if you don’t have a spare outlet on your garage door ceiling it could require an extension cord. Given the proximity to the garage door opener and the garage door itself this could be tricky for some homes. The next step is to get the base on your home's wifi, tie the device to your Chaimberlain account, and connect the base to your garage door. The wifi setup is a breeze as is adding the device to your account. Connecting the base to your garage door is pretty easy too, if anything the setup in the app makes it more confusing than it is. All I had to do was push the purple sync button on my garage door opener when the app tells you to. The app is very quick and responsive whether on wifi or your cellphone data. Sometimes the app will say there is no connection right after you go off of your home’s wifi and onto cell.
But other than that it tells you how long your door has been open or closed and what state it is in. Even when I need to re-login to the app and get to my garage door I know what is going on in just a few seconds. This was one of my biggest concerns was that I’d be down the street wondering if I closed my garage door and would be waiting a minute to connect, get the status, etc. This is definitely not the case! A really neat safety feature is closing your garage door. When you trigger the garage door to close it waits a few seconds, then on the base there is a bright light that flashes slowly a few times and a shrill but not annoying alarm sounds indicating that the door will close very shortly. Then the garage door closes. Finally you can setup various notifications for your garage door through the app. For instance if your garage door has been left open for 10 minutes you can have it email you or do a push notification to your phone. What you do, how you are contacted (outside of a text message) is up to you.
Very nice if you are someone who forgets to close their garage door when leaving the house. I love this device! It easily converted my old garage door circa 2000 to a smart garage opener. My kids love it because whenever they forget their keys, they just open the app and tap the icon for the garage to open. I placed the MyQ on our single door garage door and it was easier than I expected that my 12 year old daughter installed both the sensor and the Wi-Fi hub by herself. I have a LiftMaster garage door installed in 2000 and it was on the list of compatible brands. Note you'll need to figure out the button color of your garage opener as well. Installation was a breeze then there's downloading the app & registering the device...that seemed to take as long but worth the wait. After downloading the app for the iPhone & registration, I made sure it runs from our home Wi-Fi and synced it with the garage door. Its important to follow the instructions. We tested it a couple of times both within Wi-Fi range and using Data and it worked!
