The GGF have produced a list of the harmonised European product standards which do require CE marking on a product. In summary if you manufacture glass, process glass (e.g. toughen), manufacture IGU’s, manufacture fully glazed windows – you have to make a declaration of performance and CE mark your products to show they comply with the relevant standards. Please note if you sell unglazed frames there is not a Harmonised European Standard for these products however, who ever puts the IGU into the frame will be responsible for making a declaration of performance and CE marking. How do I CE Mark my products? The GGF have produced a series of flow charts for the different fenestration products affected by the CPR. If these are followed the process is demonstrated, some manufacturers have undertaken a lot of the work already, therefore their journey to compliance is far easier than if nothing has been started. It should be remembered that these requirements are not designed to be a difficult process – a manufacturer is declaring a few characteristics to show the products performance;

most manufacturers do this already, this is just asking for some mandatory requirements to be declared. If I install products only, do I need to CE Mark? If you install a product without any modification you do not have to demonstrate compliance to a standard, make a declaration or CE mark the product. Please note: if you are a window installer and your purchase unglazed frames and IGU’s separately you are responsible for the CE marking. How much time will it take to CE Mark? This will depend on the product and how much work you have already undertaken. Your product will need to have test reports to show it is compliant, some of this testing for durability can take several months to complete. You will also need to have a factory production control system in place – this again may take some time depending on the size and complexity of your operation. How much cost will CE Marking entail? Your product will need to have test reports to show it is compliant, some of this testing can become expensive especially if you have a diverse product range to cover.

The GGF recommend that you group your products into “families” which are similar and can be demonstrated to represent the compliance from one test report. It should also be noted that the CPR does recognise historical data can be used however, you need to be satisfied that the results are a true reflection of compliance of the products you manufacture today? Does a visible CE Mark have to be on the products I supply? No however, the declaration of performance has to be available on request.
