I couldn't breathe, coughed a little bit and just exited the house," Ethan Kellogg said.

Ethan says his grandfather came back to Middlebury 25 years ago to retire in a community he loved."I think he was just an all-around model Vermont citizen," Ethan said.And he says the people here loved Robert Kellogg, too."He got to know the community really well," Ethan said. "People loved having him around, loved seeing him on the street."They're the same people Ethan says are rallying behind his family as they face the holidays without their dad and grandfather."It was a devastating loss," Ethan said. "I'm just thankful for all the families in this neighborhood that basically opened their doors to me and my family, so that's the great part about it."Robert Kellogg planned to host Christmas at his home.
