A few months after being awarded the Platform Screen Doors contract, Faiveley Transport has strengthened its position as a key railway systems supplier in this Australian project. Sydney Metro Northwest, previously known as North West Rail Link, is the new metro rail system that will link the north-western suburbs of Sydney. It is the first stage of Sydney Metro, Australia’s largest public transport project. Sydney Metro Northwest will be the first fully-automated metro system in Australia, initially operating 22 six-car Alstom Metropolis trains. The contracts awarded to Faiveley Transport are worth more than €10 million. They cover complete braking systems (brake control, air generation and treatment units, and bogie brakes) and access doors systems (external sliding type access doors). Faiveley Transport will be in charge of the design, engineering, manufacturing and delivery of the railway systems, with three of the Group’s sites worldwide involved - Hosur, India and Shanghai, China, with the support of Sydney, Australia.
