The lighter weight flap is easier for very small or timid dogs and cats to use.If you are concerned with your flap getting dirty and looking unpleasant, the tint on the PetSafe flaps will help hide the grime in between cleanings!*The mechanism provided to lock your sliding glass door consists of a lock mounted on the pet door (not shown in the graphic. It can be mounted on either side making this pet door reversible) together with a bracket intended to be mounted on the sliding glass door with sheet metal screws. The lock then engages the bracket, locking the door closed. Notice that this approach is why the pet door must be semi-permanent only as the lock would not work if the pet door were not screwed down. The PetSafe lock does not work with the lock on your sliding glass door--too many different ones out there. We were replacing another pet door for our sliding glass door and came across this one. Purchased the medium size for our 3 dachshunds and it is just perfect. The low rise at the bottom makes it easy for them to get in and out.
Shipping was fast and it came packaged very well. I was not expecting the extras like a door latch and insulation. The fit is perfect, the dark bronze matches the door frame perfectly, and the installation directions were easy to follow. Our dogs were used to looking out a clear door before and will have to get used to the opaque door now. The little guys and girl do not adapt quickly to changes, believe me. After 30 years of owning a PetEze/PetSafe patio pet door I thought it was time to review it. We and our numerous cats have loved this door for 3 decades! It moves wherever we go as I couldn't do without it. Very sturdy and attractive, and visitors always comment on it. We've replaced the flap 4 times over the years, and that has been it for maintenance. It was very quick and easy to install in the sliding glass door. I have another door from another company and this one just seems to be a higher quality. The flap isn't quite as "heavy" but seems to be holding up just as well AND it seems to hold out the cold air just as well AND isn't as noisy.
When I need to replace that one, I'll most likely choose a larger version of this one. My dog is short so the low step over is perfect. Easy to install and works perfectly!! Love the pet door I purchased! Very sturdy, easy install and flap is a good quality, which I need with two bigger, very active dogs. Excellent door, wonderful quality. Only glitch was the delivery was delayed due to a problem with Federal Express sending item back to warehouse for unknown reason. Installed with ease and just the right step over for my 2 little Doxies! This really solved an annoying problem for me. So glad I found it. My only issue was that the airtight flap thing where it joined the sliding door didn't really work perfectly. I ended up having to buy some tape with a foam backing to really insulate it. Cost like $4 and took me like 2 minutes. Great product and a great fit. I highly recommend this especially for tall patio doors like I have. Was disappointed that when it was received, the locking cover was cracked during shipment and they referred me to the manufacturer to claim warranty rather than handling it themselves.
Also all the foam insulation and the draft stopper provided were too short for the 96" door. Still trying to locate a replacement which will work. Installed the door in about 45 minutes. Works great and dog learned to use it in about 30 seconds. Of course we have a very smart dog. The product was everything advertised. Very easy to install and the looks and performance were ideal. Thanks Petsafe for making a great product. This product fit a pella slider just perfect and was easy to install. The dogs (from 8 -50 lbs) love it I am very pleased with this door. I have an extra tall sliding glass door and this door came in the perfect size. It functions very well and my three poodles all can use this door. One is a standard and the other two are miniatures. It installed easily and the directions were easy to understand. I would recommend this door.
