The only way in would be to break the glass. This would draw attention to the intruder so he would try a door he could bust open. People say the length-lock is loose. Can't I just drill through both tubes and put in screws? Mine has a mechanism that allows adjustment without drilling. This adjustment locks the security bar to the appropriate length for your door. I would discourage drilling through. Get one first and try and see how the security bar works. I am a single female and have always lived in apartments. I bought one for my mom too. I bought it in 2001 after I was a attacked by a maintenance man (in student housing while I was in law school) who let himself in when I was sleeping. With all the people who have access to apartment keys, no one should live in an apartment without a secondary security device. This is very sturdy and secures tightly against all doors (I have lived in 5 different apartments since 2001).
I sleep a little better at night with this device. If someone were to successfully kick my door down, at least it would buy me more time to get my .38 ready. I will always have one of these while I am inside my home, day or night. Fully adjustable to ensure full floor contact for added security Constructed from 20-gauge steel for added strength Compatible with most hinged or sliding doors How does this work if the door open outward? Sorry, this security bar can only be used on doors that opens to the inside of the house. I have vinyl floors. Do I need a rug and if so, what kind? The vinyl floors do not provide enough traction for the foot of the security bar. Believe me, I learned that the hard way. I bought the bar first then it dawned on me that I had slick ceramic tile laid in the entry way to my apartment. I had to return to the Home Depot store to find a heavy-duty, rubber-backed mat to prevent the bar from slipping. That bar needs to fit as tight a possible under the doorknob. You should not be able to take a couple of fingers and jiggle it. I use the heel of my foot (with shoes or bare foot) to help press the bar into a very tight fit under the doorknob. The heavy-duty, rubber mat will really come in handy when it comes to securing your bar.
