Replacing the lock will consist of four steps. (1) Purchasing the new latch or lockset, (2) Removing the old latchset, (3) Changing the mortise in the door if required and (4) Installing the new pocket door latch. Are you sure that you need to replace the lock? See the articles 'Adjusting Pocket Doors' and 'Troubleshooting Pocket Door Problems' for a listing of possible repairs that may solve your problem. This repair should take less than an hour once you have the new door lock in hand.

You can find pocket door latches or locks on the internet and at home supply stores. They are about the same price as a conventional lockset. There are not nearly as many options with pocket door locks as you have with regular swinging doors. You may find the selection and functionality somewhat limited.

It would be a good idea to take the old lock with you when you go shopping. A Pocket door lock is held together with screws. There are probably four screws that are toward the center of the door that hold the lock assembly to the door. Use a screwdriver to take these screws out. The entire assembly should slide out, once the screws are removed.

automatic garage door opener invention The new lock should have a template for the mortise. Check the old opening to make sure you don't have to trim it. Use a sharp chisel to trim it if necessary.

After you're sure the opening is the right size you can install the lock. Slide the lock into place and install the screws. You may have to chisel out the mortise for the strike plate. Mark the outline with a pencil and use the chisel to remove any wood that is in the way. Screw the strike plate in and check the door to make sure the lock is working. Adjust the door as needed. Dry fit the new lockset in the mortise to make sure that it fits correctly. If there are any interferences, chisel or file them away until the lock fits in place properly. The lockset is made of three pieces. The center piece is the actual latch and can only be installed one way. You want to make sure that the latch comes out and goes down when the knob is turned. Use the thumbset to make sure you have it turned the right way. The thumbset should go on the side of the door that is inside of the room. Remove the screws and switch them around if they are the wrong way. The two outer plates are interchangeable, screw the lockset together with the thumbset facing into the room and the privacy function facing out.

Once you are sure that the pocket door latch if assembled correctly you can slide it into the mortise. Install the screws into the holes and then check the action. Replacing a locks on a pocket door should not have taken you too long, once you found a replacement. We hope this article helped to get your pocket door lock installed correctly. Home & GardenHome SecurityHow to Cut a Mortise for a Deadbolt Lock How to Cut a Mortise for a Deadbolt LockComplete Rim Latch LockRim locks are frequently found on older apartment doors and some businesses. Most of the hardware installs on the surface of the door and jam so they require minimal modifications to install. There is no bolt within the door itself and no need for a hole in the door jamb, so they can be used in situations where the door or jam is too thin to support a typical deadbolt (although a spin collar or spacer may be required). They can be switched between right hand and left hand doors easily, and feature a spring bolt for auto locking.

The Abloy rim lock features a thumbturn on the inside and a locking cylinder on the outside. In most cases, customers with existing rim latch hardware can replace just their existing low security rim cylinder with an Abloy Rim Cylinder. Abloy is one of the most reputable high security lock manufacturers in the world. Abloy is based out of Finland and their current top of the line lock system is the Abloy Protec/Protec2 system. The Abloy Protec system came out in 2001 and features a unique rotating disk based system with a disk blocking anti pick system that is unique to them. It is completely bump proof and extremely pick resistant (no known picking attacks have been successful). It is well respected as one of the top of the line high security locks in the world. It has one of the largest key spaces of any high security system with over 2 billion possible keys. Virtually all Abloy locks can be keyed to work with the same set of keys. The Abloy Protec2 was introduced in December of 2012 and it makes some refinements to the Abloy Protec system.

The primary features include minor additional drill resistance, harder to copy keys with an interactive element and an extended patent through 2031. To order locks in the Protec2 system select “Protec 2 Elite” under key profile on the product options. For more details please see our Abloy Brand Information page. Abloy currently has two different systems of locks the Abloy Protec2 and the Abloy Protec. First you must decide which system you would like to buy, most locks are available in both systems. For more information on the Protec1 verse the Protec2 please see our Abloy Brand Information page. To order a lock in the Abloy Protec2 you must select a key profile that has the number 2 in its name (ie "Protec2 Elite" or "Ruby2 Exclusive"). Next you have a choice of key profile, the key profile of a lock primarily is an issue of key control. Legally the Protec Elite and Ruby Exclusive key profiles have the same level of key control, no dealer other than the dealer who originally issued the keys (or the Factory) can cut more keys.

Technically, with the standard Protec Elite key profile, all Abloy Protec/Protec2 dealers in the US have access to this key blank. This is a slight security risk as it does mean they could duplicate a Protec/Protec2 Elite key if they wanted to (but they would break their contract with Abloy in doing so and we have yet to hear of a dealer doing so). Our Ruby Exclusive key profile is a key blank that is only issued to us, which removes the option for another Abloy dealer to duplicate your ruby key as they do not have access to the key blanks. A Protec Elite key will not even fit in a Ruby Exclusive lock. The Ruby Exclusive is a very secure level of key control giving peace of mind to even the most worried lock owner. Having an exclusive key profile can also be useful if an eventual attack against the Abloy Protec is found. While it is hard to speak about something that has not happened, many advanced rights escalation attacks, or advanced attacks against high security locks, require having a key (or key blank) that fits the lock.

With the Ruby Exclusive you will make it harder for an attacker to have access to a fitting key. Keyed Alike / Master KeyingMaster Keying and Keying Alike are both services we are happy to offer however they do require that all the locks are the same key profile (Ruby Exclusive or Protec Elite). We are able to key your locks alike(to the same key) during ordering at no cost. We can also master key(see our Master Keying Page) your locks starting at $15 per cylinder. Keyed alike means that if you order two padlocks and a deadbolt from us we can key them all to operate on the same key. To order two or more locks keyed alike, just select "keyed alike" under keying for each lock and all locks that are the same color will be keyed the same. During checkout there will also be a notes area and you can comment on how you want the locks keyed if you wish to provide additional clarification. It is important to note that when keying alike you do not get more keys for each lock you order, just the initial lock's number of keys.

This means no matter if you order 2 or 5 padlocks keyed alike, you will only get 2 keys total. If you require additional keys just order extra keys. There is no additional charge for keying alike. Master keying can allow you to allow some keys to open some locks and other keys to open all locks. You can specify your desired master keying in the notes area when checking out, or you can simply put a note in to call, and we will call you to discuss your needs. If you are looking to have locks or keys to a previous order please see our keyed to a previous order page. Abloy keys have a variety of color inserts that can be selected to help keep track of your Abloy keys from one another. Below, you are able to pick a color for your key indicators. If you want a different color for one or more of the keys, please specify the colors you want in the notes area during checkout. In addition, Abloy keys can have an optional plastic key head. Our Abloy Plastic Key Heads are found under the Accessories category.

The plastic key head does not block the color indicator dots. Please note when ordering extra keys you are ordering extra keys per lock. This means if you select 3 extra keys and then order a quantity of 2 locks you will get 6 extra keys. To order the correct number of extra keys you can divide the number of extra keys by however many locks you are ordering and put that under extra keys. The other option for extra keys is to add a quantity of 1 of the item you are ordering to your cart with the correct number of extra keys, and then go back and add however many more of the lock you want with 0 extra keys. It will mean you have to pick the options for the product twice, but will ensure you get exactly how many keys you want.
