The Honda Jazz sits in the supermini class with tough rivals like the Ford Fiesta, SEAT Ibiza, Peugeot 208 and Volkswagen Polo, but it has some unique attributes. With a tall roof and boxy proportions, it boasts class-leading practicality and is also tuned to be very easy to maneuver and drive, particularly in town, where most will spend their time. The Jazz is not only famed for its excellent reliability, but for Honda’s claims there’s as much space in the back as rear passengers in a Mercedes S-Class will experience. It might not quite be a luxury saloon, but there’s certainly a greater sense of space than in any rival and it’s easy to consider the Jazz as a small MPV like the Ford B-MAX or Hyundai ix20. Two of the Jazz’s greatest strengths are its huge 354-litre boot and ingenious rear seats, which boost luggage volume to 1,314 litres when folded into the floor. The rear bench seat squabs can also flip up, making a tall (if somewhat narrow) space to load items. Many will also appreciate the Jazz’s raised ride height, which can make getting in and out easier.

There’s just one 1.3-litre petrol with 101bhp, so your only decision is whether to go with a manual six-speed gearbox or a continuously variable transmission (CVT) automatic. Either way, this engine needs to be worked hard and isn’t as fast or flexible as turbocharged rivals from Volkswagen and Ford.
