In some cases, if the garage doors or the component parts are old and worn out, you will have to replace them completely. However, in most cases, lubricating and tightening the hinges and the nuts of the garage door solves the problem.
Follow these steps to fix your squeaking garage door. Use the ladder to have access to the upper parts of the door. Inspect the hinges, the opening mechanism, the door tracks, and the wheels in order to identify the source of the squeaking noise. Make sure the wheels do not wobble when opening and closing the door. If a piece of the mechanism or a wheel is broken or worn out, it will need to be replaced. You might also consider replacing the steel rollers with nylon rollers if you notice that they are damaged. Nylon rollers may cost more, but they do not make as much noise. They also do not require periodic lubrication, so they will be worth it for the added convenience. The noise might also be caused by the accumulation of debris, so you should look for that too. Try to clean the area as well as possible. Use a socket wrench to tighten any nuts or hinges which might have come loose. Make sure you do not over-tighten them. Hinges need a little play. If the bracket holes of the hinges are damaged, you should replace them.

It is important that the lubricant you use for your garage door parts is designed for outdoor use. That way, it has extra protection from humidity and temperature changes. It will protect your garage door in the future. Open and close the garage doors several times to allow the grease to penetrate between the metallic parts. Doing so will also allow you to check whether the squeaking persists. If you still hear the noise, lubricate again. It is recommended that you lubricate your garage door every 6 months. That way, you make sure that it is properly maintained.
