Frequency: Check the back of your remote to make sure the frequency of the remote is 390mhz (megahertz) or says Liftmaster, Chamberlain, or Sears Craftsman. All of these use the same frequency of 390mhz.2. Dip Switches: Open the battery compartment on your old garage door remote and look to see how many dip switches (tiny switches in a row) it has. If your old remote had 9 dip switches, then it's a match for this remote. If you don't have your old garage door remote, you can also look to see how many dip switches are on the back of your garage door opener (the overhead unit in your garage). The number of dip switches on the back of the opener is the same as on the remote. 4 x 3 x 1 inches 4.7 out of 5 stars

I have a 1998/1999 Door and for the Genie users, do the following: - Locate the program button on the remote/Click
- Locate the learning button on the garage door/Click (it will start flashing) - Click on the remote (I or II) for either 5 or 6 times, after each click wait until the flashing on the remote stops! - After the 5th or 6th click, the learning button on your Garage will stop flashing and it will have solid light! this is the indicator to stop - Click on the programming button to end the programming - Click on the opener button ..first click will not do anything. Second click, the door operates. The product is excellent and definitely worth looking at again! It is actually easier to setup than the Genie remote openers! They don't look good and not as easy to setup. Tried everything in the Clik1U manual (and the one online is the same as the one in the package) with my Overhead Door model 496CD/B and nothing. So I emailed Chamberlain who makes them and got back instructions that varied slightly but crucially from the manual. First YOU MUST STAND 10FT OR MORE AWAY FROM THE OPENER!!
Second you don't have to fret about how many presses of the button are right as when you reach correct # the red LED stops blinking and stays solid red. Third you then press the remote button (NOT the program button) TWICE and then the next press will activate the door. I did it with two different clikers . Also if your door opener has a learn button (ie the one you press to erase previous programming--so any remotes floating around will no longer work) you do NOT need to change any dip switch settings inside the remote. We have a Genie garage door opener. Went to the hardware store to purchase 3 new remotes for our new house. We purchased the last Genie garage door opener and 2 Clicker Universal Remote Controls. I read the instructions for the Genie remote and had it synced to the garage door opener in less than 60 seconds. The 2 Chamberlain Clickers do not work. I read and re-read the instructions, opened both packages assuming that the first one was defective, but alas - neither worked after spending 30 min with both.
This product is not "universal". After reading the other reviews, I did not call "tech support" as I have spent too much time on this already. I bought the Klik1U remote. It looked easy enough to program. I popped open the cover, set the DIP switch to match my old remote and walked through the simple instructions. I read Note 2 and reversed the DIP switch settings. I doubled checked the DIP switch settings on my garage door opener (pulled out the ladder, popped the cover), same settings. So here I am, standing in my garage, frustrated, looking for my receipt so I can return it. Oh, I tried going to the website for technical support and I get a copy of the same simple instructions that I'm holding in my hand. Are you kidding me? After about 5 minutes of trying to get the dip switches to match up, we figured out that our switches were backwards. 'On' position was too small to read! Remote works great and has saved us a lot of frustration of in/out of the vehicle to open/close the doors.
Cons are: 1) No mention on the manual how to set button 2 when using the dip switch. After some internet researching, we found out the dip switch position is saved under button 1's memory and to setup button 2, we use the same process. Would recommend to others. I spent at least 6 hours reviewing every document, viewing the online video, searching the online site to figure out why following the instructions was not working for me. In desperation I called the support number where they looked up my garage door opener model. Bottom line was--the KLIK1U is not compatible with my garage door opener model. Everything promoted with this product suggests that it will work with any model manufactured after 1993. This was a huge waste of time, money and effort. If you're a Genie garage door owner and trying to research how to program your remote, reference the previous review found here (I believe the reviewer is from Atlanta?). The reviewer gives easy step by step instructions for programing based on the flashing learn button that had us completely perplexed.
Once we had those instructions it programmed in literally 45 seconds. Works like a charm! The only reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 was the need to reference reviews for programming in the first place. This remote worked intermittently for a little over a year, then died. I switched out the battery and it still wouldn't work. I tried to call customer service (middle of the work day), and had a very difficult time even communicating with the system that I wanted to speak to an agent (no option on the menu), and then was on hold for 20 minutes without getting to talk to anyone. I finally gave up and hung up. This is terrible customer service and I won't be buying any chamberlain products again. I purchased this remote because it was the only remote at the store. I followed the directions and could not get it programed. I read the review from October that gave the Genie users step by step instructions. Thank you by the way! I used that and after about 5 times of repeating the process per door the remote finally programed.
