Why won't my garage door opener light turn on? There are four causes for the lights on a garage door opener not to come on. Contacts in the light socket If the light bulb has been replaced and the light is still not coming on, follow the steps below to pry out the contacts inside the light socket. Light Socket or Logic Board If the light is still not coming on, it could be the light socket or the logic board. To determine which one it is, follow the steps below. You could also have a problem with your logic board or door control circuit. The Multi-Function door control is a panel on the inside wall of your garage that has a push button for operating the door, as well as a Lock and Light button. If the Light button has been pressed, just press and release the button again to turn off the light. If the beam has been crossed multiple times, it can give the appearance of a light that won't turn off. If you have a Multi-Function door control, it may have a motion detection feature. This would also explain why the light would stay on as long as there was movement or heat detected in the garage.
Deactivate the feature while you are inside your garage if you do not want the light to stay on. Some troubleshooting will help determine the problem. Use the following steps: Determine the door control type by consulting the owner's manual. Reset the light timer to it's lowest setting (1½ minutes). Disconnect power from the unit, and disconnect door control wires from the opener.Light(s) should come on. Allow 1½ minutes for light(s) to cycle off. If light(s) turn off after 1½ minutes, the problem lies with either the door control or wiring. Continue with step 5.  If the light stays on, it is the logic board. Disconnect power from unit. Remove door control from wall, connect to operator via a known good short pair of wires. Allow 1½ minutes for light(s) to cycle off.  If light turns off, it's a wire issue.
