garage door opener blinks 10 times

Craftsman garage door opens but doe not close without holding down the close button My Craftsman 1/2 HP door (about 5 years old, working perfectly until recently) opens normally with the touch of a button (wall mounted and remote). However, it does not close the same way but needs someone to press and hold down the wall-mounted button to close all the while making a clicking noise. Not sure how this started. This door has a lock option where the door closes with a touch of a button but can only be opened by holding the wall-mounted button down. This comes in handy when we go on vacations, etc. What's happening now seems to be the opposite of this lock function. I've uplugged and restarted the opener per someone's suggestion but that did not help. Any help would be appreciated. Posted on Household Repair maybe what is happening is a gear is stripped and the machine is trying to turn itself off to prevent damage. go up there and take a look. any signs of metal shavings or anything look worn or stripped.

However, if a gear is stripped wouldn't the door just not close at all? Also, there are no issues with the door opening..what does the manual say for adjustment. im thinking that clicking might have something to with the lock feature. Not sure about the clicking noise, but having to hold down the button to close doors usually means the safety sensors have gone bad. These are the devices located on each side of the door with the red and green LED lights. Replace these and you should be back in business. It was definitely the sensor. I had the same problem and the connection to the sensor was loose. Check to see if something is blocking the electric eye at the bottom of the door opening. I've had a similar problem, most apparent in the winter, three years in a row. I isolated the problem to the electronic eye that keeps the door from closing on someone accidentally. The beam transmitter indicated it was OK but the receiver worked intermittently as indicated by the small green light on the device.

After adjusting it, tapping it, warming it with a hair dryer, etc, I decided to by a replacement from Sears (about $40) and the problem was solved. There was nothing wrong with the door adjustment, motor, gears, etc. I'm not sure how the transmitter and receiver work but apparently after some years of use they become sensitive to low temperatures and fail.
garage roller doors melbourne price did you replace the sensor or replace or adjusted the wire

After that it should work like a charm. You should clean it every year. Dirt/dust/spider web/tiny bugs make nest and lay tiny little invisible eggs will disrupt the signal. Do not use sand paper/screw driver and scrub the surface of the lense. It will permanently damage the sensors of the receivers. i had the same problem.
ikea kitchen doors adjustmentsorry someone was told to by new sensors and even suggested it might be stripped gears.

bathroom door lock stiffjust had to say. Alcohol is the way to go. If that doesnt work, then move to the next item on the list, and so forth, etc. This is good advice.

My door opened, but when I pressed the button to close it started and then stopped and the lights flashed 10 times. I cleaned the lenses and tried again and it went partially down and then reversed. I disconnected the door from the trolley and let the door close. I closed the trolley latch and then pushed the door close button and the trolley went down and latched with the door and it works fine now--up and down. I was ABOUT to go buy a new door opener! I had the same problem & one of the "eyes" had gotten bumped. I re-adjusted it & cleaned it for good measure. Works good as new. I just rub it with alcohol and it is working good. Thank you for your information, it helps me to save money and time. I rubbed with alcohol, the led lights still do not light. I cleaned all the dirt around it.I am not sure if the next step is to replace them. You will have to check the alignment and wiring of the sensors themselves. I've had mice chew through my wires.I checked the wires and they are perfect.

The door used to go down fine but stopped doing one day. There was a spider web in front of the sensor. I spent all my time looking at the door and the motor. Had a problem with garage door not closeing So took the advice of cleaning sensors and noticed i had bumped a sensor out of line. I fixed that by mooving it back in line took about 10 seconds. I used rubbing alcohol to clean sensors. It works perfectly again. Thanks for saving my time! Just had the exact same problem. I cleaned both sensors with windex and ensured there was no debris blocking either of the sensors....... it worked perfectly. Thanks for the helpful posts. Thanks....your hair-dryer trick fixed our Craftsman opener. It's probably more than 10 years old, and the unusual Florida cold snap we've had down here this year (2014) hit one of the sensors. The green light was out, and after about a minute of warming, it came back on and works great. You are absolutely right! I had the same problem so I sprayed and cleaned both sensors and now the door is opening and closing properly!
