To meet our budget it’ll probably be a 1700 Super Sprint with a 135bhp Ford crossflow engine out of a Cortina or Escort. With twin twin-choke Weber carbs it’ll sound great and with just over 500kg it will be extremely fast. The handling is amazing. And to top it off, you’ll always get back what you paid for it.

We found : A 1700 Super Sprint from 1990. The mileage isn’t mentioned but it’s almost irrelevant. This red car is up for £7,995 which is about the cheapest Caterham you’ll find.
