The following day a salesman arrived and spent about two-and-a-half hours with the widow, who gets confused about what day of the week it is and needs the support of three part time carers so she can live independently. Dominic MacMahon, left, was left furious when he found out a double glazing firm convinced his 81-year-old mother Dr Heather Collins, right, to pay £6,000 for new doors when all she needed was a £50 doorhandle replaced The day after the sale, Mr MacMahon confronted the Zenith Staybrite Ltd salesman and filmed the encounter, left and right, before posting it to Facebook where it went viralDr Collins, a grandmother of two, was persuaded to hand over a cheque for an eye-watering £5,743.73 for a new front door and backdoor which Mr MacMahon says were simply 'not needed'.The insurance broker from Colchester, Essex, returned the following day and filmed the salesman who was back at the retired GP's home.He can be seen confronting the salesman - who is sat in Dr Collins' front room - who claims he was unaware the pensioner was suffering from dementia-like symptoms.

Mr MacMahon puts a string of questions to the rep who denies any wrongdoing. The company confirmed this afternoon that an internal investigation had been launched but refused to comment any further. The five-and-a-half minutes of footage was posted to Facebook just yesterday but has already been viewed more than 650,000 times with many left fuming by what they have seen.Mr MacMahon, 50, has called for tighter controls on companies and charities who he claims take advantage of elderly and vulnerable members of the public.

People who don't have anybody to look after them like mother does.'What we are hoping to do is make sure other vulnerable people are protected from this type of sale.'He slammed the salesman for concluding the deal with Dr Collins - who lives alone and is easily confused about who people are and what they might be doing in her home.He said: 'The salesman's behaviour is unbelievable - how can you treat another human being that way?

It's not sales - it's preying on older people and it's not acceptable in our society.'Mum struggles with time and quantity - she has no idea what the implications of signing a cheque for £6,000 are.'She actually thought she had bought two door handles for nearly £6,000'If that money had gone - it would have directly compromised her ability to pay for her own carers.' This form shows Dr Collins paid £5,743 to Zenith Staybrite Ltd for the two doors Mr MacMahon claims his mother was cold-called by the salesman, right, and was sold the doors after she informed him about her broken door-handle, leftMr MacMahon has now blocked the cheque - with the £25 bank cancellation fee a small price to pay compared to losing thousands in savings. The sale only came to light after one of Dr Collins' carers found the paperwork and brought it to the attention of dad-of-two Mr MacMahon. He decided the best way to deal with the issue was to get the salesman back to the house.'I had the benefit of thinking about on Tuesday night about how to best deal with this.'I rang up and made another appointment for the salesman to come down to measure some more windows.'I then came down

, parked the car across the way and waited in the car and waited for him to come in.'The carer who was also with mum at the time led him in and he started to measure up and then we did the video. Mr MacMahon, right, said he hoped his social media post would help vulnerable people like his mother, left, 'be protected' in similar situations Dr Collins ordered two 900mm by 2100mm doors from Zenith Staybrite'If Zenith was a reasonable company they would look at the situation and say 'you don't need a new door' or 'we will get somebody out to fix that' - this was a sustained, very, very unpleasant hard sell - mum was exhausted by the end of it,' he added.Churchgoer Dr Collins, who was widowed from husband David in 1977, struggles with process and logic and she cannot concentrate for more than a few minutes at a time.'For somebody to be there for that long and to pressurise her in that way is really awful.'He knew that she did not need new doors and that she was having a difficult time and he exploited that.'Having spent this time with mother the salesman should have known it was simply not

right for her to make such a large financial decision based on something she didn't really understand.'It says in their terms and conditions would not have been due until satisfactory installation occurred yet he chose to take nearly £6,000 off her when nothing had been done,' Mr MacMahon said. The salesman said two doors he would supply should cost about £8,000 but said he was able to discount £2,000 as a marketing subsidy. He also got Dr Collins to agree to sign a direct debit mandate for £90 per year to insure the doors.Mr MacMahon believes elderly people are susceptible to sales people because they often retain home phones and are in for much of the day. The pay sheet, pictured, revealed a number of subsidies involved in the transaction Dr Collins only wanted the handle on her front door, pictured, replaced, with one company offering to do so for just £50'This is endemic with old people - my mum is preying upon by a number of companies, by charities, by utility and insurance companies.'Last year we cancelled nine direct debit mandates for her.'Old people are preyed on by the medium of telephone - they are usually at home and available on the phone.'There's no line of defence - once they get

in on the phone..'Dr Collins, a mother of three, said she'd been left feeling worried about spending her life-savings on the doors. She said: 'It leaves a nasty taste in the mouth.'It's been upsetting - I don't like thinking about it. 'All I said to the man was that if I shut the doors, they didn't stay shut.'She has three carers call in on her on a daily basis and they help her up, get her washed and dressed and provide her meals in order that she can remain living in her home and go to her local church. It is not the first time the widow's vulnerability has been preyed upon - she previously had her purse stolen after a couple knocked on her door claiming to need a glass of water.Thankfully one of her quick-thinking neighbours - a police officer - took a note of the vehicle used by the criminals who were later jailed. After seeing the Facebook footage a local window firm offered to fix the door mechanism free of charge.Mr MacMahon also put the job up on the internet and one company offered to fix it for £50 - a far cry from spending thousands on two new doors.

A spokesman for Zenith said: 'As soon as we were made aware of the issue we cancelled the order and are currently investigating the exact circumstances of this case and will, where and if appropriate, take robust action to ensure the business continues to adhere to industry-leading customer service practices.'Zenith is committed to the highest level of sales and customer service practices. A strong customer service offering is key, and as such we take any complaint or incident very seriously.'The company's customer base of UK homeowners encompasses a wide demographic profile for which we have a robust internal process to aid in the identification and protection of potentially vulnerable customers, including work with a leading dementia charity to raise awareness of dementia as part of employee training.'Following a sale
