Excludes cost of replacement hardware.iPod Touch Upper Glass/Digitizer or "Screen" Replacement I've mentioned there are basically 4 parts to the Touch Display assembly depending on which Touch model you have specifically. The Touch 4th Gen is a bit different. While Apple raised the screen resolution by 4 times what it had been in the previous 3 models they reduced the part count to 1. In the 4th Gen by making them all one fused or glued together rather expensive part. From Apple's point of view the change makes sense because it reduces the assembly cost of the device, even though it raises the cost of repair. (Remember they have to put a glass/digitizer/LCD in every Touch no matter what when they build it. Now we have to replace all of those when we repair it.) And of course the bigger problem is Apple used a glass material that is quite brittle so breaks out when it gets cracked.

Pricing for the Touch 4th Gen screen/digitizer/lcd repair is in the graphic below. The Touch 3rd gen is great device. I have one of these I use as a music source in my car stereo for long drives like the 13 hour trip to the Coachella Festival or EDC each year. The upper glass and digitizer are separate from the LCD so the cost of the repair is much lower than the 4th Gen. The cost to replace the upper glass/digitizer and the mid-chassis that holds those together and in the Touch backplate are listed in the graphic below. The Touch 2nd gen is vast improvement over the 1st gen. It has a built in speaker and was designed with some types of repairs in mind. Remember the 1st Gen Touch was really a mass produced prototype and repairing it was never a consideration with Apple. Pricing for the Screen replacement is in the graphic below. The Touch 1st Gen has the Upper Glass, Digitizer and an outer metal bezel. This was never intended to really be repaired. It is a monster task and the parts aren't made anymore, so a cracked Touch 1st gen is the end of the line.

People send me their Touch model iPods from all over the world to be repaired. I understand these are a foundational part of peoples lives. I doubt that I could go 6 hours without music. I listen to dance music continually. iPod Touch models like iPhones are as slippery as a wet bar of hotel soap and people damage them all the time from dropping them. This is a bad case of broken upper glass. The green one was dropped by a bike rider who then rolled over it. That iPod Touch I completely rebuilt and make look brand new again. It should take 4 stamps on a padded envelope or a plastic bubble mailer to get it from there to here with a total "out of your hand and back into your hand again" experience (because of the soldering) of 9 maybe 10 days depending on where a Sunday falls. Since the Touch has a big glass front to it, wrapping it in paper towels to protect the front would be wise. If you want it sent back to you using Priority Mail add $5. If you want your iPod sent back using Priority Mail and Insured add $11
