From our review: Formerly Millards at the Summit, the present c.1820 House opened on the site in May 2004, and chef-owner Richard Schreiner is still welcoming guests to his spacious fair-weather dining deck and four small indoor settings with good food and friendly service.

The Dinosaur has street-side tables out front, and a porch off the Upstairs at the Dino on the second floor. But the real outdoor attraction here is the Boneyard, a dining area complete with full bar. The highlight is the Thursday Pig Pickin' party, Carolina-style, with a whole smoked hog. From a recent review: What started as a honky tonk-style rib joint in 1988 has exploded in popularity over the years, offering some of the best barbecue available in the Northeast. Dinosaur is a fun, rollicking kind of place with an extensive beer and cocktail list and plenty of live music. • Francesca's Cucina, 545 N. Salina St., Syracuse; 425-1556. See the menu. Tucked between North Salina Street and Interstate 81? You'd never know it while sitting out on the garden-style patio at Francesca's Cucina. The restaurant in the North Side's Little Italy district combines classic and modern takes on Italian cuisine.
The patio adds a trattoria touch. From our review: Francesca's a cornerstone of Syracuse's Little Italy district opened in 2004. But the brick-walled restaurant occupies a building that dates back to the 1850s. And Francesca's continues a century-plus tradition of its owners, the Angeloro family, serving North Side customers. It's hard to imagine anything more "summer" than a hot dog and ice cream at Heid's. From our review: Open 7 days a week year-round, Heid's is one of the oldest drive-ins in the country. Even if you've never eaten there, chances are its candy-striped awning and neon red sign have caught your eye, or you've heard about its legendary hot dogs.
• Mirbeau Inn & Spa, 851 W Genesee Street Road, Skaneateles; You may be inspired to create some Impressionistic art: Mirbeau Inn & Spa is one of Central New York's great fine dining spots. It's outdoor seating in summer overlooks the gardens and ponds that were inspired by Giverny, a site that inspired Monet and others to create some of the world's greatest paintings. From our review: By day, the French country-style resort spa welcomes visitors and guests to take breakfast and lunch in plush terrycloth robes. By night, candlelight and an ethereal view of the central courtyard from the dining room create an elegant, intimate ambiance that whets the senses for the pleasures to come. • The Retreat, 302 Vine St., Liverpool; Sure it's on a suburban parking lot. But when the weather turns warm, the outdoor patio at The Retreat, with its own tiki-flavored back bar, starts rocking. The lines are long, but the party is happening. And the menu has a little of everything.

Go forewarned -- people go here to have fun, not to enjoy a peaceful retreat. • Rudy's Lakeside, 78 County Route 89, Oswego; There are lakes and then there are lakes, and Rudy's offers tables alongside Central New York's greatest: Lake Ontario. Enjoy the fish fry, seafood plates, burgers and sandwiches and the signature Texas Hot Sauce, all while contemplating the deep blue waters. From our review: Rudy's is located right on the shore of Central New York's principal weather-maker. That makes Rudy's the perfect seasonal bellwether: When it opens for the season, spring is here. When it closes, winter's not far behind. • Zabroso Restaurant & Lounge, 3960 Scanondoa Road, Oneida; The flavors of Spain and Latin America mingle with the sights and sounds of Oneida Creek at Zabroso Restaurant in Oneida. The menu ranges from light tapas to a hearty paella, with ingredients like chorizo, chimichirri sauce, saffron, plantains and lots of seafood.
