I got mine just like that and it works a lot better because light from the sun and bad weather wont ineterfere with it. I dont have a problem looking at somebody from that angle. Do I need to buy anything else? No, it has a built in camera. Can it save video on a local hard drive also connected to home network instead of the cloud service? You cannot save video on a local hard drive even if it is connected to your home network. I know additional cost for cloud storage may be a deal breaker for some but the annual fee for Ring is the best I've seem for any device such as this.

The motion sensors are in the band above the camera lens. The iOS app allows you to adjust the motion settings to turn zones on or off, and also to set an approximate range for detection.
