Sturdy and did the job and could be used for other similar jobs. I have used this product few times and has proven that it is solid and safe to use. I used to be scared of the idea of replacing my own garage door torsion springs. I actually quite simple if you have basic handyman skills. Just pay close attention to what you're doing and respect the force that can be stored in a spring. These winding rods were the cheapest I found anywhere and they did the job for me. Probably saved $100 of more replacing my own spring and it took less than an hour. Total project cost me under $50 and now I have rods to use next time. Typically these rods are 18 inches long and have slightly tapered ends so they fit securely into the spring retainers.

It is a basic safety issue. These rods are barely 16 inches and are just sawed off at the end. Felt dangerous to use. Got the rods and did the job just fine The winding rods arrived well packaged and as described. Material was cold rolled steel not mild steel rod, higher strength with a better finish than half inch mild steel rod stock. The 18 inch length was helpful at high spring tensions. Adding a strip of tape one inch from the wind cone end of the rods allowed visual verification of full engagement of the rod in the cone recess, important for safety. The packaging if opened carefully can be used for storage of the rods for future use. The price delivered was less than $9. The nearest competitor's price would have been ~ $25 including shipping. The Walmart in store pickup option was both convenient and used to avoid shipping charges. The description could include the proper dimensions. The one they had didn't make much sense. The important thing is that it is the 1/2 inch rods needed to turn the spring.
