I posted a similar question recently. But now I need help booking a rental Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (4 door is key). We are taking a newbie couple with us to Kauai in September and need a larger open vehicle and I think this jeep will do the trick. Anyone know where I can find one? I googled and the rental company that comes up is local and they never answer or call me back. Sorry don't know the answer but why do you have to rent a jeep? Just rent a 4 door midsize car for less. Well, maybe you're right. But we want an open top. We will never drive in Kauai without the ability to remove the top. I guess a convertable is ok..but the Mustangs that Avis usually rents seem small...can adults fit in the back seat? I've seen them on the island but don't know who rents them. Check with the rental companies directly and ask them if they have the Jeep. Their web sites may say they do but not all locations have the same vehicles. And you can get two adults in the back seat of the Mustang as long as they can get cozy with each other.

I've seen Unlimited's too (& have a friend who owns one; the back seat leg room is HUGE), but don't know which company has them. The folks at Discount Hawaii Car rental are great; bet they can save you a lot of time & produce a very competitive rate: Alamo carries the 4 door Jeep, but I'm not sure the top comes off the same as the two door. They offered us one but we wanted the smaller two door - there were a lot of people waiting for the 4 door, so availability may be dicey. We fit four adults in a 2 door; you just have to practice your Dukes of Hazzard moves to get in and out of the back. I suggest you call the Alamo office on Kauai directly and ask them how to reserve a 4 door. Thank you guys for the helpful leads. I'll get started contacting these companies. Sure we look like tourists - but that is what we are!!!

Just a word of caution, don't leave any valuables in the jeep (easy to break in or if you have the top down, no place to safely put things) We are from Canada, so for like 5 months of the year we are shoveling snow and it just feels awesome to have the top down the wind in your hair and feel the sun bake down on you in the vehicle. Thanks for the info. I'm being told that the Wrangler Unlimiteds are on a first come first serve and not guaranteed. I am willing to prepay for the rental to guarantee I get one...still looking. Okay, opps, we used HawaiiDiscount for our Kauai Jeep rental, but as I said I think the 2 are connected, and when I booked, I emailed them to get 100% confirmation that we were 100% guaranteed at jeep for our rental. They emailed back confirming that, and said if there was any trouble at the rental desk to call them and they gave me the number, so we felt pretty safe and secure in our rental.
